Many people who suffer from morbid obesity can achieve significant weight loss and a much healthier lifestyle through surgical procedures that are not only minimally invasive, but also reversible and adjustable. Our experienced bariatric surgeons, Dr. David D. Kim and Dr. Bridget Holden, offer advanced gastric banding procedures to help patients achieve an earlier feeling of fullness and lose weight safely and effectively. With procedures such as LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding and the REALIZE® Band, the stomach is not permanently altered and the surgery itself typically involves very small incisions and only minimal recovery time.
The following links will lead you to greater descriptions on gastric banding procedures, band adjustments, and other important information on our comprehensive gastric banding weight loss surgery program. Kim Bariatric Institute has been designated as a Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, and we are committed to helping patients lose weight safely and successfully.

Similar to the LAP-BAND® System, REALIZE® Band surgery offers another effective way to provide you with an earlier feeling of fullness by creating a smaller stomach chamber for food intake. The REALIZE® Band involves the attachment of a wide silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach. Like the LAP-BAND® System, the band can be adjusted to allow for more food or less food into the stomach chamber, depending on your individual needs. The REALIZE® Band can also be removed at any time.
The LAP-BAND® System is an Adjustable Gastric Banding procedure that is FDA approved for use in patients who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, plus at least one comorbidity condition related to obesity. Learn more about how the system works including benefits and risks, and a comparison of this procedure to other weight loss surgery options.
LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding is one of the most popular surgical weight loss techniques in America. This reversible, restrictive bariatric surgery procedure involves the placement of a silicone band around the upper part of the stomach to create a smaller stomach chamber, helping patients feel full after smaller meals. Many patients lose an average of 70 percent of their excess body weight with this minimally invasive procedure.
LAP-BAND® Fills and Adjustments
Band fills, or band adjustments, are quick treatments designed to provide a tighter fit for the gastric band around the stomach. This procedure can give you an even earlier feeling of fullness at mealtimes, helping you to lose weight more effectively. Band fills are virtually painless procedures and typically involve no discomfort after treatment.
Fluoroscopy Machine for Band Fills
The fluoroscopy machine for band fills and adjustments is a state-of-the-art technique designed to fill your gastric band in the most precise and accurate way possible. This technology significantly reduces the likelihood of discomfort once the procedure is complete.
Live Slim Again with the LAP-BAND® System
The entire team at the Kim Bariatric Institute understands how hard it can be to get rid of those 40 or 50 extra pounds. With the new FDA recommendations, patients who have a Body Mass Index that registers less than what was previously required may be eligible for the LAP-BAND® System. We have designed a comprehensive program, which includes the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding procedure, to help you live a healthier lifestyle and get back into those skinny jeans!
FDA and Lowered BMI Recommendations
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently lowered the Body Mass Index (BMI) requirements for qualifying patients to have the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding procedure. The new recommendations have made it possible for millions more patients to have minimally-invasive weight loss surgery and effectively fight morbid obesity.
