BMI Calculator
What does your BMI mean?
BMI, or body mass index, is a system of measurement that helps a patient figure out how overweight he or she is. A BMI of 20 to 25 is considered normal. 25 to 30 is considered overweight. 30.1 to 34.9 is considered obese. You are a candidate for weight loss surgery if your BMI is 40 or greater or if you have a BMI between 35 and 39.9 along with a serious health problem. The U.S. FDA has recently approved the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System for use in patients who have a BMI of 30 or more and at least one serious health problem (comorbidity) related to obesity.
"I have lost a total of 160 pounds and I feel better than ever. I have started living again."
- Barbara M.
"I am currently 29-years-old and weigh 130 pounds. Before surgery I weighed almost 240 pounds. This is the best thing I have done with my life and would do it again today if need be. It changed my life drastically. I thank God everyday for my new chance in life and the doctors He sent me to."

If convenient, you can plan to arrive in the Arlington and Dallas – Fort Worth area on a Sunday night or a Monday morning and head directly to Forest Park Hospital for pre-operative testing. At the hospital, you can view a patient education video, in addition to receiving a post-operative booklet with more information on what you can expect after your weight loss surgery. Dr. David Kim can meet with you at the hospital and answer any questions you may have. Surgery can be scheduled one day after your arrival.
The Dallas – Fort Worth area is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world and home to many fine hotels, shopping areas, and attractions. Our practice is convenient to a variety of relaxing places to stay, including:
Hyatt – 1 mile away from the hospital
Double Tree – 5 miles away from the hospital
Hotel ZaZa (Boutique) - 5 miles away from the hospital
Recovery time necessary after your bariatric surgery will depend on the type of procedure you undergo; however, traveling patients should prepare to stay in the area for at least a few days after surgery so that Dr. Kim can evaluate you in follow-up examinations and make sure you are healing properly. Dr. Kim would prefer you rest in the DFW area for one week, but we understand if you need to leave sooner. Even with an extensive vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery (VSG), Dr. Kim can safely have you on your way back home by the following Saturday.
