BMI, or body mass index, is a system of measurement that helps a patient figure out how overweight he or she is. A BMI of 20 to 25 is considered normal. 25 to 30 is considered overweight. 30.1 to 34.9 is considered obese. You are a candidate for weight loss surgery if your BMI is 40 or greater or if you have a BMI between 35 and 39.9 along with a serious health problem.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery

Patients who live in or near the Fort Worth area can undergo state-of-the-art laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery at our practice, which also serves Dallas, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, and surrounding communities. Gastric bypass surgery is an extremely common procedure in which Dr. Kim creates a small stomach pouch that is connected to the lower part of the small intestine so that food entering the stomach bypasses the area of the digestive system where much of the calories and fat are absorbed. Because the stomach pouch that is created holds a significantly reduced amount of food, patients eat less during mealtime.

Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Resection Surgery

A relatively new procedure in the bariatric field, laparoscopic gastric sleeve resection is an exciting weight loss surgery option at our practice near Fort Worth that combines some of the advantages of gastric bypass and LAP-BAND® System surgery. Also called sleeve gastrectomy, the procedure works by permanently reducing the size of the stomach by approximately 70 percent, limiting the amount of food it can hold.
